HIGH RIVER, AB – It wasn’t the way he would have liked to close out his provincial championship, but Medicine Hat’s Ryan Hodgins walks away from High River with a top-10 finish.

Golfing in the Alberta Junior Championship at the Highwood Golf & Country Club, Hodgins shot a six-over, 76 on Friday to wrap up his tournament in seventh place.

It was Hodgins’ highest score of the week after dropping scores 71, 67, and 75 in his previous three rounds.

Hodgins finished at nine-over par for the tournament, 10 shots behind the Alberta Junior champion Carter Graf out of Red Deer who went wire-to-wire to finish at one-under par.

Caleb Kinch was the next highest local finisher at 28-over par for 34th in the standings, while fellow Medicine Hat product Nolan Burzminski was one shot behind Kinch after shooting a 79 on Friday.

Medicine Hat’s Sam Bratvold and Mathieu Chapdelaine both missed Wednesday’s cut line at did not play in the final two rounds of action.

On the junior girls side, Calgary’s Annabelle Ackroyd defended her provincial title with a 73 on Friday and won the Alberta championship by nine strokes.

Taber’s Alanna Makarchuk did not qualify for Friday’s final round, missing the cut after shooting an 86 in her third round.
