MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Public School Division is confirming Crescent Heights High School is currently in a hold and secure state.

The Medicine Hat Police Service posted on Twitter that officers are investigating reports of a suspicious package in the school’s parking lot, and students and staff are sheltering in place.

An automated voicemail, sent to parents of children at the school and obtained by CHAT News, plays the following message.

“Crescent Heights High School is currently in a hold and secure,” the message states. “The Medicine Hat Police Service is currently investigating an external safety concern.”

As part of a hold and secure, exterior doors to the school are locked and all outdoor activities are cancelled, but classes continue to operate normally.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
