MEDICINE HAT, AB – No shortage of talent from Alberta and Saskatchewan at the Family Leisure Centre over the weekend, with hundreds making the trek for medals and personal bests.
The annual Alberta Marling Aquatic Club’s Landsperg Invitational spring meet was held for young swimmers travelling from as far away as Regina and Saskatoon.
The host AMAC team dominated the medal tally, taking home 32 gold medals over the two-day event and winning the overall rankings with 95 total medals.
They were led once again by Delrae Vetter, who won five individual gold medals in the 100 metre freestyle, 200 metre freestyle, 800 metre freestyle, 100 metre breaststroke, and 200 metre medley disciplines.
She was also a part of AMAC’s gold medal winning 4×50 metre freestyle relay and silver medal winning 4×50 metre medley relay teams.
Brothers Parker and Munro Maxwell also dominated the podium, combining for 12 individual medals over the weekend.
Parker won four gold medals in the freestyle and butterfly events, while Munro took home two silvers and four bronzes in the pool.
Jaiden Riddell won three gold medals for AMAC, which was followed up by five medal performances from each of Hunter Skrove, Ashton Scholly, and Diesel Grettum.
It was a successful weekend for the local Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club as well, with the majority of their medals coming from brothers Karsten and Kage Senft.
Karsten picked up gold medals in the 50 metre freestyle, 100 metre freestyle, 200 metre freestyle, 50 metre backstroke, and 100 metre backstroke to go along with a bronze won in the 400 metre freestyle.
As for Kage, he won a 50 metre freestyle gold and four silvers in the freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly disciplines.
Other Waves swimmers to hit the podium included Johnathan Marshall, William Miller, Jaivyn Barabe, Cambria Henderson-Muryn, Taigan Walker, and Grace Jacobs.
The Waves ended their weekend seventh in the overall tally with six gold medals and 22 total medals.
