MEDICINE HAT, AB — We're still months away from a new college volleyball and basketball campaign, but many players for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers have already clinched their spot in the playoffs.

MHC has won bids to host two ACAC Championships in 2020 — Women's Volleyball Provincials from Feb. 26-29 and Women's Basketball Provincials from Mar. 4-7.

The Rattlers confirmed the ACAC's decision in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon.

"The Rattlers are excited to host both of these outstanding tournaments and help promote women in sport," Terry Ballard, Manager for Sport and Wellness at MHC, stated in the release. "This is a chance to showcase women and girls in sport and an opportunity for young girls to watch the top female student-athletes in the province right in Medicine Hat."

It'll be the volleyball squads first appearance at provincials since 2013, having narrowly missed out last season with a fifth-place finish in the south conference. The basketball squad, meanwhile, will go for gold for a fifth straight year.

No matter where either team finishes in the upcoming regular season, both squads have solidified their playoff spots as hosts. They'll welcome the top four teams from the North Conference along with the top four from the South, including themselves.

The gold and silver medalists will each earn spots at their respective CCAA Championships.

MHC last hosted an ACAC tournament in the winter of 2018, welcoming the best men's volleyball teams in the province.

Rattler Nation's most recent major tournament came last October, hosting the entire country for the CCAA Golf Championships at Desert Blume GC.
